    Question:

Can Someone Other Than the Dog Owner Be Responsible?

    Attorney Michael Knobloch in video

    Answer:

We spoke to a woman last week who told us that her granddaughter had been bitten by a dog, but the owner was not present, and she wanted to know whether or not there was still a case. The answer to that question is, yes, someone other than the owner of the dog can be responsible under Illinois law for a dog bite. For instance, if you are watching somebody else’s dog and you are not taking care of that dog, by letting him off the leash or letting him roam free, you could be responsible.
